故事背景设定在一个名为西弗敦的小镇，免费在同一天中，免费史无前例的多个龙卷同时席卷这个小镇，在这些难以预测且极度致命的龙卷风群袭击下，整个小镇面临灭顶之灾。但专门研究龙卷风的追风人预测，更糟糕的情况还尚未真正到来。大多数居民都在紧迫寻找避难所，而这些追风者们却“逆向而行”赶到龙卷漩涡前，测试需要走多远才能拍到这千载难逢的极端时刻。
