回复 :21岁的美丽女售票员贞子（南野阳子 饰）被嗜赌成性的父亲卖到妓院阳晖楼。身为妓院中介的岩佐（西田敏行 饰）虽然干着下九流的工作，但为人正直善良，他自始至终关心着贞子的成长。花名“牡丹”的贞子天资聪慧，很快成为阳晖楼的头号花魁，为上流社会竞相追捧。黑道小人物仁王山偶然邂逅牡丹，既同情她的命运，又深深为之所吸引，因此分外憎恨岩佐。彼时牡丹将被纨绔子弟多田宏守（白龙 饰）赎身，万般无奈的仁王山劫持牡丹逃到小渔村。岩佐救出牡丹，却发现牡丹喜欢的人正是自己。而另一方面，嫌弃牡丹的多田宏又蓄谋将其卖至满洲，可怜女孩的命运随着黑暗的时代颠沛流离……本片根据宫尾登美子原作改编。
