母子相姦を描いた石坂洋次郎の同名小説を、亚洲松竹を離れフリーになった吉田喜重が撮った独立プロ第1作。松谷静雄は母・静香との二人暮らしのサラリーマンだが、亚洲幼い頃から静雄の父が胸を病み、病院暮らしが多かったためか、内向的な性格だった。静香は女手一つで静雄を育ててきたが、町の権力者・橋本と不倫の関係を結んでいた。静香と橋本は静雄に、橋本の娘・ゆみ子との結婚を勧める。“異母兄弟の結婚だ“と叫ぶ静雄だが、やがてゆみ子と結婚する。苦悩する静雄は母と関係を結ぶ。吉田はフォトジェニックな映像を使って、母子相姦を内向する観念として描いた。
